Ways To Save On Two Wheeler Insurance

Insuring your two wheeler may seem like an expensive business, but given that it is a legal requirement, it’s something you need to do. Regardless of whether you are an experienced rider or a beginner, there are many ways that you can save yourself some pennies.

Secure your two wheeler

Doing everything you can to ensure your bike is secure will help to reduce your insurance premiums. The ideal solution would be to keep it locked in a garage at all times. Obviously this isn’t always possible so for the times that you can’t keep your bike under lock and key you should invest in other security measures. There are several different options that are approved by insurance companies and that will help to reduce your costs. Alarms, immobilisers and ground anchors can all be used to protect your bike when it is out on the street.

Become a better rider

If you are an inexperienced rider then taking an advanced riding course that will improve your skills will also help to reduce your premium. Even if you have some years of experience behind you, completing one of these courses will show you have completed a recognised course as well. And if you are an experienced biker then you never know, you might still learn something!

Lower your mileage

Think carefully about how much you will be using your bike. The fewer miles you put on the clock the lower your insurance will be, simply because the less time you spend on the road the lower the risk of you having an accident is.

Choose a voluntary excess

Most insurers will try and set an excess amount for you, but you can opt for a voluntary excess where you set an amount. If you do this and set it at the highest amount you can realistically manage then this should lower your premium. Bear in mind though that if you do have an accident, you will need to pay the excess – so make sure you can definitely afford it.

Keep your licence clean

This one is fairly self-explanatory, but having points on your licence will affect your insurance. Points and tickets make you seem like a liability to insurers and this will make them want to charge you more to cover their backs.

Shop Around

This is probably the most important part.If you spend a little bit of time comparing quotes you will be able to get an idea of what the best deals are. If you already have two wheeler insurance and you come across a better deal than the one you currently have, don’t be afraid to phone up your current provider and let them know you’ve found something better. Companies want to keep you as a customer and will be willing to offer you a good deal to stay with them, if you are willing to negotiate. It might seem a bit of a task, but it could be worth it in the long run.
